As an employer, you likely know how important it is to perform background checks before hiring employees. However, you may not be aware of exactly the type of information a pre-employment background check can reveal. Identity Confirmation

During a background check, databases such as the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration can be searched to show whether a prospective employee’s Social Security number is valid and belongs to the name they provide to you. Criminal Records

Criminal records are typically considered the most important when employers are determining whether or not to hire someone. A criminal record check can protect your workplace, prevent safety issues and reduce legal liability. Felonies and misdemeanors for a seven-year period at the central court in a given area will all be reported, at a minimum, in compliance with state and federal guidelines. If your prospective employee will be driving on the job, a driving record check may be essential. Their driving record will inform you of their driving history including traffic violations, suspensions, and restrictions on use. It can give you an idea of whether or not they’re a safe driver.

You want to make sure the prospective employee who says they’ve worked in marketing for a Fortune 500 company actually did. That’s where employment verifications come in. They can verify your prospective employee’s work history is accurate. Also, if they say they have a master’s degree in journalism, you want to make sure they are telling the truth and can do so with an education verification. Simply accepting a copy of a candidate’s degree could be dangerous due to the number of fictitious documents presented to employers all the time. Credit Reports

Chane’s credit reports are prepared by Experian. They show a summary of a prospective employee’s credit history, which includes  recent credit and loan applications, account payment history, and collection amounts.
